MrJohnny Recommends… Austin Children’s Theater
We just finished two weeks of theatre camp for both Nicholas (12) and Amber (6) and the entire experience was superb. Both of our kids had great fun, made really nice new friends and truly dazzled us each week with a new performance.
The teachers were all young, energetic and tons of fun.
Week 1 for Amber was all about acting on camera during which they made film commercials, short movies learned about acting, directing and such. Week 2 was acting on stage. They played all kinds of fun games, learned about acting, costumes and wrapped it all up with a really cute play.
Nick was in the intensive triple threat camp – sing, dance, act. They spent the weeks learning dance moves, songs, monologues, short scenes and then absolutely floored us with the final performance.
Every camper had several solos as well as parts in the group scenes.
The youngsters in Nick’s group ranged from 10 to 15 and were all very nice and got along well. Lots of games and fun activities mixed along with the professional training.
A.C.T. is new and maybe that’s why we liked them so much. Its just great to be around all the excitement and enthusiasm you find in a young company. Amber and Nick immediately felt comfortable and welcome and did not ever want to leave at the end of the day.
Of course, that part is the most important to me and we were more than pleased with the attention that each of our kids received.
But then we saw the final show. Wow! So they actually learned a lot as well…
If you have been wanting to try music and acting for your youngsters but (like us, cautious in this arena) I can honestly recommend this group without reservation.
Best regards,
MrJohnny

Hiteshi Auburn Recommends….
Luca attended summer camp at the Austin Children’s Theater and he had a wonderful experience. The teachers were knowledgeable, very talented and genuinely cared for the children. The staff at ACT are conscientious and passionate people who want to help children to express their creativity through role play and self expression using acting as a conduit. The had costumes and made commercials dreamed up by the children and put on plays and movies they wrote directed and produced with the help of the teachers. I particularly enjoyed attending the “Red Carpet†premieres at the end of camp. We got to see what they had been working on all week.
My son is speech delayed and was one of the younger students to attend. I expressed my concerns to Talena when I signed him up. Talena was interested and assured me that they would make every effort to be mindful of his special needs. Not only did they do an extraordinarily good job at including him with the other students, they also went out of their way to insure Luca participated.
The benefits Luca took from attended this camp were immediately obvious and now some weeks later he is still growing, he has experienced a jump in language and he has some new vocabulary. We now play the games and exercises he played at ACT at home.
After the first camp was finished he woke up on the Saturday and asked to go to camp. I was so pleasantly surprised I signed him up for another week.
I was really grateful they had an option to provide lunch and snacks. This was very convenient and the food was fresh and nutritious.
I would highly recommend ACT! They are a wonderful group of people who take time to really interact with the children and teach them.
