The Musical Project

Open to ages 7-14, this program is good for any experience level, as we cater to each performer’s individual needs. Students will be immersed in song, dance and acting, as they take to the stage in this all-around musical theater experience. There are also many opportunities to help design sets, costumes and overall look of the show. The program culminates in three performances for family, friends, and the general public.

Narnia

Take a journey through the wardrobe into another world- one where animals talk and magic runs deep. The first and most famous book of The Chronicles of Narnia is now a musical. Join us in this enchanted world filled with creatures and spirits of myth and magic, good and evil, knowledge and power. The show begins at a moment of great adventure- Three children find their way into Narnia in the midst of a witch’s rule. They quickly learn about the true King of Narnia- Aslan, the great lion- who has been “On The Move”. Sing along, as the children work with Aslan and struggle to save this world and its inhabitants, learning along the way the valuable lessons of courage, trust, selflessness and wisdom. With beautiful and enchanting music and a vast cast of characters, this musical is perfect for performers of varying ages and experience.

    Adam Roberts (Musical Direction /Choreography) is pleased to be returning to ACT to work on Narnia. Adam is a resident teaching artist with ACT. His direction, choreography and musical expertise has been seen in Godspell, Alice in Wonderland and in ACT summer camps.

The Play Project

Experience the art of straight-up stage acting first-hand through a fun and creative production. Students will not only gain the technical skills of acting, but also apply these skills in the performance of a full-length play. Modern Shakespeare

Explore the world of William Shakespeare, as we take a fresh new look at the Bard’s famous plays and characters. Perform in the style of Shakespeare with a modern flare.

Anyone Can Act

Theater is more than just song and dance. In fact, you don’t have to sing or dance to be on stage. Explore the side of theater that is just about the acting and have fun as we show you how anyone an act. Learn the basic techniques of acting through games, improvisation and character development. Create and motivate characters through your own interpretation and discover that the stage is the place for you! Great for students of all experience levels, as we cater to each individual’s talents and mold the curriculum to fit your needs. Class size is limited to 12.

Comedy-Improv with The New Movement

Think you’re funny? Do you want to be? Well, this is the class for you! Once again, ACT and The New Movement Theater join forces to offer Comedy-Improv classes. Experience the art of improv comedy with ACT and two of Austin’s award-winning performers, Chris and Tami of The New Movement. Play games, form troupes and learn how to think on your feet, all while developing the basic skills of stage acting. The course culminates in a hilarious performance for friends and family.

Play Making

Once Beyond a Time

Once beyond a time, there were characters that made your favorite stories come to life! Bring your imagination and energy to create your favorite characters like the hero, villain, or anyone in-between! We will create whole new stories where you decide what will happen next as you learn the art of storytelling through hands-on art projects, movement and basic theater skills. You are the storyteller of this great tale! Let your imagination run the show as you and your classmates bring these original stories to life onstage in a final performance. Each student will finish the class with new friends, cherished memories of the many adventures they took and a bound book of the art-work and stories they wrote. Class size is limited to 12.

  • ● Perfect for those who are interested in our programs but can’t commit to a long-term class schedule.
  • ● An excellent way to dabble in many different areas of theater arts.

Try different things…See what sparks your creative flame…Fine-tune the knowledge you already have… Whether you are just starting out or you are brushing up, these workshops are a great way to get specialized training in an area that interests you! Each workshop is concentrated in one specific area and is lead by a career professional. Attend a workshop for fun. Attend because the subject is something you’re serious about. Either way, you walk away with knowledge.
